Getting around
Getting to Angoulême
The town of Angoulême does not have its own airport. Therefore, the simplest way of arriving is by Angoulême station which has many transport links thanks to the SNCF (French public railway company). You can book tickets on their website (which is available in several languages).
Paris Charles de Gaulle (Roissy CDG) Airport
Without leaving the airport building, a train station is located on the first floor of Terminal 2. There are several direct trains every day between the airport and Angoulême, and the journey takes around 3 hours.
Paris Orly (ORY) Airport
You will have to make your way to either Paris Montparnasse station or Massy TGV station by taxi, Uber or public transport.
Public transport from Paris Orly Airport to Paris Montparnasse station:
- Journey: Take metro line 14 to Maison Blanche, then line 7 to Place d’Italie, and finally line 6 to Montparnasse-Bienvenue
- Duration: around 45 mins
- Cost: €13 (Paris Région Airports tickets | RATP)
There are several direct trains every day between Paris Montparnasse station and Angoulême, and the journey takes around 2 hours 15 mins.
Public transport from Paris Orly Airport to Massy TGV station:
- Journey: Take the Orlyval metro to Antony stop, then the RER B to Massy – Palaiseau
- Duration: around 30 mins
- Cost: €13 (Paris Région Airports tickets | RATP)
There are several direct trains every day between Massy TGV station and Angoulême, and the journey takes around 2 hours 10 mins.
Bordeaux-Mérignac (BOD) Airport
You will have to make your way to Bordeaux Saint-Jean station by taxi, Uber or public transport.
Public transport from Bordeaux airport to Bordeaux station:
- Journey: Direct shuttle bus Airport – Station
- Duration: around 30 mins
- Cost: €10 on board, €8 online one way, €14.40 online return
There are several direct trains every day between Bordeaux Saint-Jean station and Angoulême, and the journey takes around 40 mins.
Getting around Angoulême town
Walking
It is easy to get around by foot in Angoulême.
Bus
As for public transport, STGA has a well-developed bus network ("möbius") in the GrandAngoulême Urban Area.
Cnam-Enjmin is served by the two following bus stops:
- Le Nil (bus 3, bus 5, shuttle bus N2)
- La Cité (bus 6, bus 9)

Bike
You can also hire a bike from STGA. They have either classic or electric bike (link in French) for a period of 1, 3 or 6 months.
Student Bike prices (link in French) for a classic bike: 1 month: €9.40, 3 months: €23.10, 6 months: €41.80
Please be aware that a deposit of €220 will be requested when renting a classic bike (which will only be taken in the event of loss, theft or damage of the bike). You will be required to write a cheque for this; you can request a cheque book from your French bank.

Trains
Angoulême has train links with the following main stations (by TGV, French High Speed Trains):
- Bordeaux Saint-Jean (≈ 40 mins)
- Paris – Montparnasse (≈ 2 hours 15 mins)
- Charles de Gaulle 2 TGV Airport (outside of Paris) (≈ 3 hours)
- Massy TGV (Parisian suburbs) (≈ 2 hours 10 mins)
- Marne-la-Vallée – Chessy (Parisian suburbs, access to Disneyland) (≈ 2 hours 50 mins)
- Strasbourg (≈ 5 hours 20 mins)
- Lille Flandres (≈ 4 hours 30 mins)
Regional train lines (TER) also allow you to access the following main train stations (Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region):
- Bordeaux Saint-Jean (≈ 1 hour 30 mins, line 13)
- Cognac (≈ 35 mins, line 16)
- Royan (≈ 1 hour 30 mins, line 16) (access to beaches)
- Poitiers (≈ 1 hour 10 mins, line 12) (access to Futuroscope)
If you regularly use the train, check out the Youth Railcard (Carte Avantage Jeune) offered by the SNCF for young people up to 27 years old. The railcard costs €49 per year.
Bus
Regional buses and coaches (link in French) make it easy to reach the following main towns:
- Cognac (≈ 1 hour 10 mins, line 160)
- Limoges (≈ 2 hours 10 mins, line 180)
- Périgueux (≈ 1 hour 40 mins, line 310)
You can also use coach companies, such as Flixbus or BlaBlaCar Bus, to travel to places that are further away, such as Paris (≈ 6 hours 30 mins), Bordeaux (≈ 1 hour 50 mins) or Biarritz (≈ 5 hours 15 mins).
Car
For car sharing, you can use the Blablacar platform.
To hire a car, a young driver insurance is mandatory for under 25s and prices are often quite high. For students from a non-EU country, you will most certainly be asked to provide an international driving license. You can hire a car from a classic car hire company or use the Getaround platform (car clubs for both individuals and professionals).
