The XR-CREATIVE writing residency created by MagelisSyndicat Mixte of the Pôle Image in Angoulême, and Cnam-Enjmin aims to foster innovative narrative projects by using immersive and interactive technologies.

The residency is open to all authors working on French-language projects to help them finalise their script and refine their creative intentions. the aim is to develop an already structured project that has a strong idea and scenario, and to refine its graphic, sound and interactive universe. At the end of the residency, the authors are expected to produce a document detailing the project, their finalised script and all the information required in pre-production or prototyping.

5 authors (4 projects) will be hosted for a 3-week residency between 3rd and 21st July 2023, which the jury chose from amongst 15 applications:

  • Jorge Esteban Blein with Makina, an immersive virtual reality adventure online with 4 to 12 players and a real actress.
  • Pierre Friquet with Captain Nemo, the imaginary sequel of Jules Verne's "Twenty thousand Leagues Under the Seas" as an action-adventure VR experience.
  • Milosz Hermanowicz with Jacob et Julie, an interactive documentary experience for virtual reality adapted from the diary of Jacob Hochberg, written during the Second World War.
  • Lucia Malerba and Niccolo Manzolini (Mangoosta) with Roussel’s Music Box, a VR experience adapted from their shirt animation film "L’angoisse et l’extase".

During their 3 weeks in Angoulême, the authors will have the opportunity to meet with several professionals working in the field of the visual image in Angoulême. They will be assisted by volunteer Cnam-Enjmin students: Visual Artists, Sound Artists and Game Designers.

They will each receive an allowance of €4,000 from the Charente Department. In October, they will be invited to take part in the Courant 3D Festival which takes place in Angoulême, where they will have the opportunity to present their pitch to producers.

With key players from Spain, France, Poland and Italy, the residency's partners are very happy to welcome these international talents to the town of Angoulême, which has received the label 'UNESCO Creative Town' and is buzzing with thousands of talented people working in the field of the visual image.
