Inclusive and Fair Communication
In 2015, Cnam signed the Commitment Agreement for Public Communication without Gender Stereotypes (Convention d’engagement pour une communication publique sans stéréotype de sexe) with the French High Conseil of Equality between Men and Women (Haut Conseil à l’Égalité entre les femmes et les hommes).
Cnam-Enjmin therefore ensures it communicates, both in its written publications and spoken communication, without any gender stereotypes.
We follow the recommendations prescribed in the “Pour une communication publique sans stereotype de sexe” Guide from the High Conseil. Click on the image opposite to see the guide. Please note that it is only available in French.
For an egalitarian language
- Use feminine or masculine names for professions, titles, ranks and functions in accordance with the gender of the person concerned
- Use communication without gender stereotypes, both orally and in writing, for example by using doubles (specific to French): when writing, put both terms in full; when speaking, decline nouns and adjectives that vary in gender (eg: techniciens et techniciennes)
- Use epicene terms (words whose form does not vary between feminine and masculine)
- Use the pronoun ‘iel’ in the singular (French equivalent of the neutral 'they' pronoun) or ‘iels’ in the plural, which designates a group of people of different genders
- Use alphabetical order in the case of double designations
- Use egalitarian agreements: agreement is with the closest term (specific to French)
For a non-sexist presentation of women and men
- Eliminate all sexist remarks
- Present people’s identities in full
- Show the diversity of profiles and statuses
For multiple and balanced representations of both genders
- Diversify the representations of women and men
- Ensure a balanced number and representation of women and men in all communication media
